Despite the efforts of the child protection system, child maltreatment fatalities remain a serious problem. Although the untimely deaths of children due to illness and accidents are closely monitored, deaths that result from physical abuse or severe neglect can be more difficult to track. The Child Welfare Information Gateway released a factsheet that describes data on child fatalities and how communities can respond to this critical issue and, ultimately, prevent these deaths.
